This month, we are featuring John Rice, who has been riding for 60 years! Through his travels, he has managed to ride in 49 states (all except Hawaii) and 16 foreign countries (above and below the equator and in the eastern and western hemispheres). Over his riding career, John has been an Observed Trials rider, had a brief stint in motocross, and has spent a lot of time wandering around in the woods on various old bikes.
John owns a Suzuki DR650, a Yamaha XT 250, a BMW R1200GS with DMC Expedition sidecar, and a BMW G310GS. His DR has Warp 9 wheels, Cogent rear shock, Progressive fork springs, Corbin seat, JNS headlight, Parabellum rally windshield, and Wolfman soft luggage on DirtRacks saddlebag mounts, among other upgrades. The XT has Cogent suspension, JNS headlight, Corbin seat, Parabellum rally windshield, and Touratech soft luggage.
In terms of future rides, John has been looking into a return to the British Isles for a ride-around. He and his brother-in-law also have a trip down into the gulf states on their XT 250s planned. Also on the agenda are a return to Nova Scotia and Cape Breton, the Finger Lakes region and a bit of Eastern Canada. Lastly, he might make another western run over our way to Oregon and Washington.
You can follow along on John’s adventures on his blog Coddiwomple.
