This month's Featured Rider is John Fairrington, who is based in Southern Oregon. John runs a company called I Ride Rogue, which organizes backcountry excursion (BXR) events for dual sport riders.
The picture above was taken near the Painted Hills of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument near Mitchell, OR. John took this photo during a 5-day event with 12 other riders from around Oregon. After dinner their first evening, John grabbed his camera and headed for the Monument. The area was hard hit with thunderstorms and flooding, but John managed to snap this picture and a few others, while narrowly avoiding the 2 inches of hail that fell only 7 miles away!
The bike in the picture is a 2021 Honda Africa Twin - Adventure Sport model. It has a National Cycle VStream windshield, full armor from AltRider, a Touratech Ergo Pannier system, and Dunlop Trailmax Mission tires.
You can learn more about John's BXR events on his website. You can also watch videos of some of his events on YouTube (Hells Canyon Rally, Fossil Bed Ride).
