This month, we’d like to share something a little different. ProCycle customer Raynor Vandeven from Arizona owns a 1996 Suzuki DR650… with a custom-built sidecar!
While Raynor loves riding his DR650, he loves his dog, Nancy, even more. His motivation for building the sidecar was to be able bring Nancy along on his local adventures. Since she already loved hanging out the car window and the back of Raynor’s truck, getting her on the DR seemed like a no-brainer!
Raynor began planning his build last summer and started work in October. By January, the sidecar was ready for a test run, and it was in regular use by March. Although Raynor continues to tinker with the sidecar, Nancy has already given it two paws up. Her favorite part is getting to bite all the branches on the bushes as they ride past.
The DR itself has had a few modifications done as well, including a jet kit, airbox mod, larger tank, larger front brake, headlight shroud, mirrors, risers, levers, and a 14T sprocket.
In terms of adventures, Raynor and Nancy have stuck to local day trips so far. They have been up and around the Catalina and Santa Rita Mountains, through the San Pedro Valley, and all around Ironwood National Monument.
It’s been too hot in Arizona this summer for extended trips, but come fall, Raynor and Nancy will explore further afield, including the AZ BDR.
