Featured Rider: Han Kim

This month, we’re excited to feature ProCycle customer Han Kim from Utah who rides a 2007 Suzuki DR650 and a 2023 Ducati Monster.

Han has meticulously re-engineered his DR from the ground up. Starting from the powertrain, he has upgraded his motorcycle with a Mikuni TM40 carburetor, ProCycle SS Pro-Flow headpipe, DG RST muffler, and a high-output stator. He added suspension upgrades front and rear from Cogent, a Warp 9 fork brace, and a GPR V5 steering stabilizer.

Up front, Han’s DR sports Cyclops rally lights, a Trail Tech dash, Doubletake mirrors, and a Givi windshield. Down low, he’s added a 320mm front brake kit as well as a skid plate from Acerbis. Han has replaced levers all around with Warp 9 components, lowered his footpegs with the ProCycle kit, replaced his handlebars with Renthal adventure bars, and added Barkbusters handguards.

A Sargent seat, a 5.3 gallon tank from Acerbis, and a Pro Moto Billet rear rack complete the look. What a sweet ride!

Han recently finished a ride on his bike from Utah to Ushuaia, Argentina. The route was about 30% dirt and 70% road, and he found the DR to be the perfect platform for a lightweight adventure bike.

His extensive efforts in modifying the bike combined with the DR’s mechanical simplicity gave him  confidence that he’d be able to tackle any issues that might arise on the trip. However, the point was moot since no major issues came up! On his trip, Han only had to tackle 4 oil changes, one front tire change, a couple of rear tire changes, and some chain cleaning.

Whether it was getting up to over 16,000 feet at Abra del Acay on the legendary Ruta 40 in Argentina, riding the back roads towards Chimborazo and Cotopaxi in the rain and sleet in Ecuador, making sketchy passes of chicken buses on the winding mountain roads of Guatemala, battling the legendary winds of Patagonia on the way to Ushuaia, or riding along the beaches in Panama, the DR was a champ!

At the time of his submission, Han was planning on heading up to Prudhoe Bay in Alaska. And from there? Who knows.
