At ProCycle we often cater to riders that roam the globe in search of something. What that “something” is, varies from rider to rider and journey to journey. But no matter the reason for your trip, we are here to support you as we have done for over 20 years. And so, it’s not uncommon for our customers to add our shop in Springfield, Oregon as a waypoint, or even destination, on their adventure. We’d like to share one traveler’s recent trip with you.
Jim, a New Mexico resident, left his house on his DR650 for a short camping trip, expecting to be gone about 3 days before heading back home. Where this story gets interesting is that in true adventurer spirit, Jim did not head back home, but rather decided to make his way to see the Grand Canyon. Then one thing led to another and he ended up in the Pacific Northwest almost 4 weeks later.
As a long-time customer of ours, Jim made it a goal to come and visit the “DR headquarters,” a title given to us by many, and one that we wear proudly. While visiting, Jim shared his stories and adventures with us and convened with the “big brains” here on which routes he should take after leaving. He snagged a ProCycle t-shirt before leaving with intentions of coming back through after heading north to visit the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville, Oregon, just a couple hours north of us.
A few days later, Jim arrived back at our shop in need of some new rubber and a sprocket before making the long journey south down the Oregon coast and then back across towards New Mexico. Jim started his journey on a well-worn set of Shinko 705s that suited him well for the journey, but he wanted something a little meatier and more aggressive for the long ride and rugged trails on his way home. We installed a set of Motoz Tractionator GPS tires, which offer a fairly aggressive tread pattern while also giving many straight-line miles due to its tall lugs and solid rubber middle section. With Jim’s DR650 all set and ready to rock we said our goodbyes and wished him luck on his travels home.
To those of you thinking about taking a trip on your bike, we say DO IT! Life is too short to not take the time to experience what this beautiful world has to offer. We can comfortably tell you that those “butterflies” will disappear once you hit the road and finally leave town.
